Mode of address
Modes of address can be defined as the ways in which
relations between addresser and addressee are constructed in a text. In order
to communicate, a producer of any text must make some assumptions about the
intended audience; reflections of such assumptions may be discerned in the text. There is fromal and
informal modes. Formal may be presented
in a classic magazine. Whereas some
magazines may chose to address the audience by informal laguage such as
colloquial and expletive language. Colloquial language can be referred as slang
or words that may be abbreviated. On the otherhand expletive language comes
across as informal as it is know as unpleasant, inappropriate lanuage such as swearing. There are many factors that may influence the
choice of modes of address in a music magazine. For instance genre,format of magazine and target audience.
Many publications will contain a large amount of text to
deliver the text therefore the text has to stand out to engage the reader. The
term typography refers to the style and arrangement or appearance of text. There are 3 goals of typography: 1st
goal is that the text readability, 2nd goal of typography is to
transfer information to the reader in an efficient manner and 3rd is
to use type to provide a sense of order and structure that makes logic and
visual sense. One main factor that contributes to typography is typefaces,
which can be divided into four categories sans serif, script, and serif and
decorative or ornamental. Also drop caps are used within the text. They are
used at the beginning of the paragraph which draws the reader and makes them
want to read it. Using these in different colours and changing the weight of it
makes it more interesting and eye-catching. Produces also publish the text,
changing for emphasis so it highlights specific words to show which the main
points are changing the font size to show the importance, changing the style to
make it more appealing and using the use of colour to make it more attractive
to eye also to highlight key points within the text.
