General Information on music magazines

A music magazine is a magazine that publishes the latest trends in music industry that relates to the interests of a particular sub- such as Kerrang magazine is aimed at rock people. Within a music magazine you would expect to see a lot of images and people prefer images rather than a lot of text. The images usually contain of famous artists, new album covers being released, live gigs and pictures of fans. Images in a music magazine are a key feature to engage the readers and promote the magazine. When producing a music magazine you also have to consider is the language being used, its important as different types of language relate to particular people. For instance a R&B magazine such as vive will use a lot of slang throughout the magazine especially on the front cover as it is a characteristic of its chosen audience.

However there are many similarities between magazines. All magazines have a main image of an artist on the front of their magazine. This shows the audience who is featured in the magazine and the image is usually related to the genre. The title is often bold and is situated at the top of the page, so the reader can identify the magazine easily. All magazines have colour schemes running through them this is to make the magazine more presentable and recognisable to the public eye. A professional magazine will be print with the date, barcode and issue number this is to show continuity to the magazine and gives the impression to the reader that it is a well organised layout to the magazine.
