Pop
The purpose of these magazines are
to offer gossip on current mainstream artist in the public eye. Pop magazine to appeal to the masses, due
to many global acts such as Adele. Pop has a general audience, which so many
people can relate to. Pop magazines usually use conventions such as bright eye-
catching colours, large printed fonts and graphic images. The magazine often
attracts the target audience of the younger generation. The type of language
used within this particular magazine is informal to influence and convey this
sense of relationship of belonging and self-worth between the reader and the
magazine. The main image chosen to be published in the pop magazine with will
be a current artist/band, this makes the reader feel that he magazine is unique
and exclusive with having an insight to the celebrity’s lifestyle. The theme of
the main artist staring and promoting the magazine will be portrayed and
carried throughout the magazine.
Rock magazines usually promote
dark, heavy serious atmosphere this is approached by using dark shadowy colours
such as black, red and grey with creates the mysterious presentation of the
magazine. Throughout the rock magazine it isn’t often published with a set
organised structure and layout. The magazine is packed with information that is
usually statured across the pages making it seem messy, this layout wouldn’t
attract such target audience like pop magazine as for them is personally
wouldn’t be eye- catching and attractive. However the publishes have designed
their magazine to appeal they specific audience of people who have
characteristic of loud, outgoing mysterious personality. The focal image often
well-known artist specific to the genre that is a role model within the rock
industry such as queen and green day. The bold edgy font and buzz words is a conversation
that again that helps the magazine achieve to entice their chosen target
audience.
Dance magazines typically have
bright fluorescent colours with powerful abstract images which interact and
reflect the club lights and the images portray the environment and atmosphere
with the night out in town. This magazine has a personal link with the reader
as it brings a sense of knowledge and belonging to the reader as they
themselves feel as if it memories as they have been in such a environment and
can make a personal link within the readers emotions. The layout of the
magazine simple however disorderly this brings the magazine to reality and
lifelike as that is the atmosphere of the club, although the magazine still
manages to create that dramatic style effectively from the use of colour and
fonts. The magazine target audience is aimed at young women from age 18 and
above.
Overall there are a Varity of
magazines with different genres that serve a different purpose and target
audience. The magazines are diverse and due to the different purposes they have
different publishing houses.
A publishing house is just a
different name for a company which publishes pieces such as magazine. They are
specifically companies that take the written work of a writer or a musician and
makes it available to the general public, in different from across various
media platforms, such as print, online, radio and more.

produce music magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘Kerrang’

Nast Publication – Publication of the ‘lifestyle magazines’. Largely linked
with fashion.
Ø Immediate
Media C – largest magazine publisher, specialised in publishing ‘ Top of the
Pops’
