Magazines our custom-made for a specific enthusiast reader. The main idea behind general magazines consist of entertainment, viewpoint promotion and product sale are the main ideas behind every general interest magazines.
However I am focusing and analysing Music magazines, and within this particular type of magazine there are a  variety of genres such a pop, rock, dance, which has been has been published to engage a specific target audience.

Pop

The purpose of these magazines are to offer gossip on current mainstream artist in the public eye.    Pop magazine to appeal to the masses, due to many global acts such as Adele. Pop has a general audience, which so many people can relate to. Pop magazines usually use conventions such as bright eye- catching colours, large printed fonts and graphic images. The magazine often attracts the target audience of the younger generation. The type of language used within this particular magazine is informal to influence and convey this sense of relationship of belonging and self-worth between the reader and the magazine. The main image chosen to be published in the pop magazine with will be a current artist/band, this makes the reader feel that he magazine is unique and exclusive with having an insight to the celebrity’s lifestyle. The theme of the main artist staring and promoting the magazine will be portrayed and carried throughout the magazine.

Rock

Rock magazines usually promote dark, heavy serious atmosphere this is approached by using dark shadowy colours such as black, red and grey with creates the mysterious presentation of the magazine. Throughout the rock magazine it isn’t often published with a set organised structure and layout. The magazine is packed with information that is usually statured across the pages making it seem messy, this layout wouldn’t attract such target audience like pop magazine as for them is personally wouldn’t be eye- catching and attractive. However the publishes have designed their magazine to appeal they specific audience of people who have characteristic of loud, outgoing mysterious personality. The focal image often well-known artist specific to the genre that is a role model within the rock industry such as queen and green day. The bold edgy font and buzz words is a conversation that again that helps the magazine achieve to entice their chosen target audience.

Dance

Dance magazines typically have bright fluorescent colours with powerful abstract images which interact and reflect the club lights and the images portray the environment and atmosphere with the night out in town. This magazine has a personal link with the reader as it brings a sense of knowledge and belonging to the reader as they themselves feel as if it memories as they have been in such a environment and can make a personal link within the readers emotions. The layout of the magazine simple however disorderly this brings the magazine to reality and lifelike as that is the atmosphere of the club, although the magazine still manages to create that dramatic style effectively from the use of colour and fonts. The magazine target audience is aimed at young women from age 18 and above.
